More about The Paragons

The Paragons were a seminal Jamaican rocksteady and reggae vocal group formed in the early 1960s. Originally hailing from Kingston, the trio consisted of lead vocalist John Holt, along with Howard Barrett and Tyrone Evans. They gained prominence in the late 1960s with their smooth harmonies and romantic ballads, becoming one of the most influential groups in the genre. Their hit songs, such as 'The Tide Is High' and 'On the Beach,' showcased their unique blend of soulful melodies and heartfelt lyrics, earning them a dedicated following. The Paragons' music not only helped shape the sound of reggae but also laid the groundwork for future artists, making them a pivotal force in the evolution of Jamaican music. Despite changes in the lineup and the eventual departure of Holt in the early 1970s, the group continued to perform and record, leaving a lasting legacy that resonates in the reggae scene today.
