With a career spanning over five decades, Puente was instrumental in popularizing Latin jazz and salsa, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz elements. He began playing the timbales at a young age and later mastered various instruments, including the vibraphone and piano. His vibrant performances and innovative compositions, such as 'Oye Como Va' and 'Ran Kan Kan,' showcased his extraordinary talent and charisma. Puente's influence extended beyond music; he appeared in films and television, earning multiple Grammy Awards and a place in the Latin Music Hall of Fame. He passed away on May 31, 2000, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire musicians worldwide.
