More about Sigur Ros

Sigur Rós is an Icelandic post-rock band formed in 1994 in Reykjavík. Known for their ethereal soundscapes and hauntingly beautiful melodies, the band consists of Jónsi Birgisson (vocals, guitar), Georg Hólm (bass), and Orri Páll Dýrason (drums), with former member Kjartan Sveinsson contributing keyboards and piano until 2013. Their music often features a blend of lush instrumentation, Jónsi's falsetto vocals, and lyrics sung in both Icelandic and a unique, invented language called 'Hopelandic.' Sigur Rós gained international acclaim with their breakthrough album, 'Ágætis byrjun' (1999), which showcased their signature sound and earned them a devoted fanbase. Over the years, they have released several critically acclaimed albums, including '()' (2002) and 'Takk…' (2005), further solidifying their status as pioneers of the post-rock genre. The band's cinematic sound has also been featured in numerous films and commercials, enhancing their reputation as one of the most innovative and influential acts in contemporary music.
