More about Everything But The Girl

Everything But The Girl, often abbreviated as EBTG, is a British musical duo formed in 1982 in Hull, England, consisting of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. The band's name, inspired by a Turner's Furniture advertising slogan, reflects their eclectic approach to music, blending elements of jazz, folk, and pop. Their early work was marked by a jazzy and somewhat melancholic style, but they achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with a shift towards electronic music. The duo's fifth album, 'Idlewild' (1988), featuring the hit single 'I Don't Want to Talk About It', showcased their ability to merge introspective lyrics with catchy melodies. However, it was their 1994 album 'Amplified Heart' and the Todd Terry remix of 'Missing' that catapulted them into international stardom, with 'Missing' becoming a global hit. Despite their commercial success, Thorn and Watt have always prioritized artistic integrity over fame, leading to a diverse and critically acclaimed discography. After a hiatus starting in 2000, during which both members focused on solo projects and personal lives, Everything But The Girl announced their return in 2022, much to the delight of fans worldwide. Their enduring influence is evident in the way they seamlessly bridged the gap between genres, paving the way for future artists in electronic and pop music.
